Background

Space.com’s broadband multimedia mystery and adventure was designed as an advertisement and educational “treasure hunt” through our Solar System. Visitors gather items on 7 planets and moons in our Solar System which are assembled at the end to create a “mysterious communication device.”

Solution

As with any online experience, the project needed to function flawlessly on a multitude of new browsers. Several methods of delivering Flash media to an online audience were utilized including: flash video (.flv’s), audio (through streamed and externally loaded .mp3’s) and .swf's – as well as informing the overall experience through external .xml files. Technically, the entire experience unveils through a series of preloaded transitions, which were all designed to work as effectively and unintrusively as possible to the end user.
